Best Coffee Shops to Work or Study From in Hollywood
Hollywood has no shortage of coffee. What's harder to find is somewhere to stay for three hours: a seat you can keep, parking that lasts longer than a meter, and a room that's still open when you're done.
Street parking around here mostly means a meter with a two hour limit, so for each coffee shop below we've written about the parts that let you stay put. A first hour of parking on the house. A lot you can use for as long as you're inside. A kitchen, so lunch doesn't mean giving up your table.
We're remote workers, and we built Grounded so you don't have to piece all that together from reviews and photos you've zoomed into before you leave. Each one has a Grounded Score out of 100, built from parking, WiFi, outlets and seating. Same four things everywhere, scored the same way.
The score's on this page. The grade behind each of the four, and the latest check ins, are in the app.
7 work friendly cafés in Hollywood

Liberation Coffee House
Hollywood
Inside it's one bright room with big windows and a mix of booths and communal tables, and you won't spend long hunting for an outlet. The kitchen sends out breakfast burritos and proper sandwiches, made by graduates of the Los Angeles LGBT Center's culinary training program. The Center's garage is right underneath, with the entrance around the corner on McCadden, and the baristas validate your first hour; after that it's the garage rate or a meter nearby. It closes mid afternoon, so come early and give it your best hours.

Coffee For Sasquatch
Hollywood
A metal Sasquatch hides in the living plant wall, so you'll know when you've found it. It's a small room with a few more tables outside, and those are where laptops tend to land. It's known for having outlets to spare. Seats go fast, so a weekday morning is your best shot at one. The valet lot next door is free for the first hour if you tell them you're a customer, which is time enough to settle in before you move the car. Get in early and it's a good room to start the day in.

Humanist Coffee + Matcha + Toast
Hollywood
Pull into the small lot out front and it's yours for as long as you're inside, which on Melrose counts for a lot. It's a little place full of armchairs, with good light and the feel of a living room more than an office. Outlets are around but not at every seat, so come with a full battery and pick a chair near a wall. The matcha is whisked by hand, and the toasts make a proper lunch. Bring one long task and it'll hold you for the afternoon.

Javista Coffee Hollywood
Hollywood
The back patio is the reason to know about Javista. Inside is covered in art and strung with fairy lights, and seats there can go quickly. Out back is where you'll find room to spread out, and it's calm enough that a long session goes unnoticed. There are outlets, but they don't reach every table, so claim one before you order. Street parking tends to be easier early, and there's a garage in the building for when it isn't. Bagels, toasts and sandwiches cover lunch, and nobody seems in a hurry to move you along.

Sightglass Coffee
Hollywood
Sightglass is the big one. It's a working roastery with room for around 150, long library tables under reading lamps, booths that look onto the roasting floor, and an enclosed patio out back. The long tables up front are the social end and usually aren't where the outlets are, so if you need to plug in, the tables in back are the better bet. It fills as the day goes on, which is the case for coming early. A full kitchen means lunch without packing up, and the lots nearby sell a day rate, so the meter doesn't decide when you leave.

Stereoscope Coffee
Hollywood
Most days the doors open at six in the morning, and they don't close until seven at night. For a day that starts before everyone else's, that's the whole case for it. The space is big and bright, with an industrial feel and plenty of seats. It's coffee and financiers and nothing else, so eat first or plan to step out at noon. If you're driving, the garage behind the building may validate an hour, and the 4 bus runs right past on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Flowin Cafe
Hollywood
One drink on the menu is called the Lock In Latte, which tells you who Flowin had in mind. It's a bright, airy corner room at Melrose and Formosa with plenty of table space and outlets that aren't hard to find. Weekdays tend to be calmer than weekends, so save the deep work for one. Parking means the street here, and the meters on Melrose stop at two hours, so check the side streets before you commit. Croques and paninis mean you can eat without leaving, and the matcha list is built around focus.

Frequently asked
- Where can I park near a Hollywood coffee shop for more than an hour?
- Humanist is the easiest: its small lot out front is yours for as long as you're inside. Liberation validates your first hour in the Los Angeles LGBT Center's garage underneath, with the entrance on McCadden, and Coffee For Sasquatch's valet lot is free for the first hour if you're a customer. Near Sightglass, the paid lots sell a day rate. Everywhere else it's meters, usually two hours at most, and some on Melrose now run on Sundays too, so check the sign.
- Which Hollywood coffee shops stay open latest?
- Stereoscope, which runs until seven at night and opens at six most mornings. Sightglass and Flowin go until six. For a late night, Koreatown is a short drive south, and Awesome Coffee there runs to 2am.
- Which Hollywood coffee shop is best for studying?
- Sightglass, if you like company around you: long library tables under reading lamps and booths along the roastery, with the back tables the ones to aim for if you need power. Liberation is brighter and smaller, with outlets easy to find, but it closes mid afternoon, so it suits a morning session. For one person and one long task, Humanist's armchairs and the lot out front make for a quieter afternoon.
- Where are the outlets easiest to find?
- Liberation and Flowin, where you shouldn't need to hunt. At Coffee For Sasquatch, power has rarely been the problem; seats are. At Sightglass they're mostly at the tables in back rather than the long ones up front. At Javista and Humanist there are outlets but not at every seat, so grab one when you see it, or come in with a full battery.
- Can I eat lunch without giving up my table?
- At most of these, yes. Liberation, Sightglass, Javista, Humanist and Flowin all have real kitchens, from breakfast burritos and sandwiches to toasts and paninis. Coffee For Sasquatch keeps it to burritos, bagels and pastries. Stereoscope is coffee and financiers only, so eat before you arrive.
